{"id":1836,"date":"2020-12-20T11:11:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-20T05:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/farmspot.in\/index.php\/2020\/12\/20\/market-snapshot-for-global-and-indian-chickpeas\/"},"modified":"2020-12-20T11:11:00","modified_gmt":"2020-12-20T05:41:00","slug":"market-snapshot-for-global-and-indian-chickpeas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/farmspot.in\/index.php\/2020\/12\/20\/market-snapshot-for-global-and-indian-chickpeas\/","title":{"rendered":"Market Snapshot for Global and Indian Chickpeas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<article>\n<figure><!-- Check if the request is from FB-RSS--><img src=\"https:\/\/kj1bcdn.b-cdn.net\/media\/42042\/chana-2.png\" alt=\"Chana\" class=\"lazyload img-fluid\"\/><figcaption class=\"caption\">Chickpea<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>International chickpea markets\u00a0have been more or less stable in recent weeks mainly because\u00a0of seasonally\u00a0light trading activity.\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/krishijagran.com\/agripedia\/how-to-grow-chickpea\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/krishijagran.com\/agripedia\/how-to-grow-chickpea\/\">Indian chickpeas<\/a> markets were steady to firm during the week ended Dec 18.\u00a0Reserved selling mood persisted among domestic market participants while moderate spot demand was noted throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<\/p>\n<p>Pricing of Chana is unlikely to improve much in coming weeks due to stiff competition from cheaper availability of green vegetables.\u00a0Generally during winters vegetable prices are lower due to which traders of Chana find it difficult to price the product\u00a0higher.\u00a0The traded offers of\u00a0Superior grades of\u00a0Chana at Lawrence Road Mandi averaged between Rs.4875\/qtl\u00a0and Rs 4950\/qtl\u00a0during the week just ended.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For Russia the October month was impressive for the exporters as the overseas sales increased versus September month. As per the\u00a0data\u00a0available\u00a0from Federal Customs Service of Russia, October shipments\u00a0totaled\u00a050,498 metric tons (MT), up 29% from the previous month&#8217;s total of 39,156.\u00a0But year on\u00a0year\u00a0(comparing\u00a0October 2020 and October 2019\u00a0export figures) the\u00a0exports\u00a0are running lower at\u00a0306,923 MT, from 323,826.\u00a0The\u00a0statistics\u00a0also\u00a0showed India was\u00a0largest\u00a0buyers with\u00a032,116 MT in the month. Pakistan was the second\u00a0largest\u00a0buyer receiving 8,175 MT, followed by Turkey at 7,207 MT.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<\/p>\n<p>Likewise Australian Chickpeas exports were better in the month of November when compared with October. The\u00a0available data from Australia Bureau of Statistics reports shows that November month exports for the month\u00a0had reached\u00a042,278 metric tons (MT), up from 25,530 MT the previous month.\u00a0However the\u00a0exports so far\u00a0are down 5% and so far the sales have reached\u00a0351,227 MT to the overseas destinations.\u00a0Australia Bureau of Statistics data also showed that\u00a0Bangladesh was\u00a0largest purchaser\u00a0taking 15,977 MT. Pakistan was the second most\u00a0leading buyer with\u00a08,370 MT, followed by Nepal at 5,936 MT.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For North America\u00a0there are expectations of domestic\u00a0consumption\u00a0to remain strong in\u00a0forthcoming weeks,\u00a0due growing\u00a0number of consumers looking for foods they perceive as healthier and more environmentally friendly.\u00a0Participants remain vigilant\u00a0over the\u00a0production outlook of India\u2019s Kabuli type chickpeas.\u00a0Market will be also looking for production prospects of\u00a0Australian\u00a0Chickpeas.\u00a0As there is a higher possibility for\u00a0massive increase in Australian\u00a0Desi\u00a0chickpea types,\u00a0the\u00a0chances of\u00a0competition between small caliber and\u00a0desi\u00a0chickpeas\u00a0are more\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0North American exporters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n                &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<\/p>\n<p>Overall the global market participants remain\u00a0optimistic\u00a0about\u00a0trading activity\u00a0to\u00a0improve during the first quarter of 2021 because Ramadan begins in\u00a0April this year and usually purchases of pulses increase during this period.\u00a0There will be interest amongst exporters to evaluate the planting area\u00a0of\u00a0Chickpeas in Pakistan and India,\u00a0since the quantum of imports from these nations\u00a0shall depend largely on the area sown during the Rabi season.
