<\/figure>\nGur futures trading have commenced from 15th December onwards, at India\u2019s leading Agri commodity exchange, National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX).<\/p>\n

NCDEX has re-launched this product, based on market demand, eventually\u00a0adding one more product to its diversified\u00a0Agri\u00a0commodities portfolio.\u202fMuzaffarnagar, UP, is the basis centres\u00a0in Uttar Pradesh\u00a0for NCDEX Gur futures.\u00a0Uttar Pradesh leads in India\u2019s production with a giant share of 47 percent of the country\u2019s total output, followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which produce 21 percent, 8 percent and 5 percent of total Gur\u00a0output, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The January contract prices had been fluctuating between 1060 and 1110 levels since the launch.\u00a0Total Open Interest by end of the week had increased from 180 MT to 320 MT and the daily average trade value\u00a0was recorded\u00a0between\u00a01-1.5\u00a0crore\u00a0during the week.\u00a0The contracts\u00a0will be available for\u00a0the entire\u00a0monthly expiry for year\u00a02021 except for May and October. The price quotation will be Rs. per Mann or Mound,\u00a0i.e. Rs per\u00a040\u00a0kg.\u00a0As there is regular\u00a0demand\u00a0from the\u00a0confectionary industry and processors, market participants\u00a0expect\u00a0prices to remain stable to firm in forthcoming weeks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Launching of Gur Futures is the outcome from increasing demand from the spot market participants.\u00a0India\u00a0leads in the world\u00a0Gur production\u00a0with a\u00a0sharing\u00a0of nearly\u00a060%. However no price benchmark\u00a0was\u00a0available to either producers or traders.\u00a0Therefore with the launch, the industry can be hopeful in fulfilling the long pending demand of the industry, as there will\u00a0be\u00a0higher chances of\u00a0efficient\u00a0price discovery and price dissemination for the commodity.\u202f\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gur or Jaggery is a pure, traditional, unrefined form of sweetener.\u00a0It is prepared by concentrating the sugarcane juice. It is available in the form of solid block and in semi-liquid form. It is a natural product of sugarcane. Jaggery\u00a0or Gur\u00a0plays an important role in this health conscious era where healthy food is preferred over normal food.\u202f Gur scores over\u00a0white\u00a0sugar in many aspects, such as \u2013 Gur\u00a0contains minerals and vitamins unlike\u00a0sugar.<\/p>\n

Additionally, studies have indicated that Jaggery has much nutritional and medicinal aspect like its anti-carcinogenic and antitoxic activity.\u00a0The commodity\u00a0is widely used in food products, distilleries and for medicinal purposes.\u00a0Moving forward,\u00a0participating in\u00a0Gur futures\u00a0will be beneficial for\u00a0primary producers, traders, consumers and other stakeholders in managing price volatility and hedging the price risk.<\/p>\n
